Scholarships for Students Pursuing Cybersecurity

• SWSIS is a partnership of Applied Computer Security Associates (ACSA) and CRA-WP. Its long-term goal is to contribute to increasing the representation of women in the information security workforce. ACSA founded the SWSIS scholarship program in 2011 and joined forces with CRA-WP in 2014 to lead the selection process. As of 2018, SWSIS have been awarded to over 75 women studying information security.

National Organizations

• was founded in 2011, the NCL provides a virtual training ground for collegiate students to develop and practice their cyber security skills using next generation simulated environments. It’s a year-round endeavor with regular seasonal events.
• ��is a consortium of higher education institutions, businesses, and government agencies focused on collaborative efforts to advance Information Security education/research and strengthen the national cybersecurity workforce
• ��The National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education (NICE), led by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), is a partnership between government, academia, and the private sector focused on cybersecurity education, training, and workforce development. The mission of NICE is to energize and promote a robust network and an ecosystem of cybersecurity education, training, and workforce development. NICE fulfills this mission by coordinating with government, academic, and industry partners to build on existing successful programs, facilitate change and innovation, and bring leadership and vision to increase the number of skilled cybersecurity professionals helping to keep our Nation secure.

• ��– National Center for Systems Security and Information Assurance. The Center for Systems Security and Information Assurance is a National Science Foundation (NSF) Advanced Technological Education (ATE) National Resource Center. Since 2003, CSSIA has provided students with real-world learning experiences in information assurance and network security through several program improvement supportive initiatives.
• ��ISSA is the community of choice for international cybersecurity professionals dedicated to advancing individual growth, managing technology risk and protecting critical information and infrastructure.
• ��is a community of Universities and Community Colleges that have distinguished themselves as Centers of Academic Excellence to the DHS and NSA.
• – Information about becoming a Center of Academic Excellence 2-Year (CAE2Y). A new reality and opportunity for community colleges. This institutional award is established by the National Security Agency (NSA) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), with the support of the National Science Foundation (NSF) and CyberWatch. Community colleges that have established a robust information assurance (IA) program and have successfully mapped their security courses to two of the Committee on National Security Systems training standards.

Those who are pursuing a career in cybersecurity are encouraged to learn more about and obtain industry accepted certifications to validate their knowledge and enhance their career opportunities.

Monitoring Is Key

Monitoring for vulnerabilities and making key audiences aware of such vulnerabilities is a critical part of the cybersecurity profession—and of course finding solutions to secure the vulnerabilities once they're identified.
