What is Phi Theta Kappa?

Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) is an international honor society that recognizes the academic achievement of college students and provides opportunities for its members to grow as scholars and leaders. Established in 1918, PTK has a presence on almost 1,300 community college campuses in 11 nations.听

  • Each year,听Phi Theta Kappa听conducts a national scholarship competition, titled the听All-USA Academic Team, to honor outstanding students from technical, junior, and community colleges across the country. A student鈥檚 nomination for the All-USA Academic Team qualifies them to be a member of the听All-Indiana Academic Team. These students have demonstrated excellence in academic achievement, leadership, and service.

    • All-Indiana Academic Team students are invited to the Luncheon & Recognition Ceremony where each听member will be individually recognized with a certificate and medallion.
    • The highest-scoring transfer pathway All-USA applicant from each state is named a New Century Scholar.听These 50 students receive a $2,250 scholarship from the Coca-Cola Foundation and the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation and are honored at the 2023 American Association of Community Colleges convention.
    • The highest-scoring workforce pathway All-USA applicant from each state is named a New Century Scholar.听These 50 students receive a $1,250 scholarship from the Coca-Cola Foundation and the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation and are honored at the 2023 annual Association of Community College Trustees Congress.
    • The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation sponsors the Coca-Cola Community College Academic Team.听Nationally, 50 students are named Gold Scholars, each receiving a $1,500 scholarship; 50 are Silver Scholars, each receiving a $1,250 scholarship; and 50 are Bronze Scholars, each receiving a $1,000 scholarship.
    • 黑料视频 Foundation Scholars are the highest-scoring All-USA applicants in Indiana who are not New Century or Coca-Cola Scholars.听Up to three students who are on a transfer path and three on a workforce path may receive this honor and a $500 scholarship.
  • The purpose of the College Project is to establish and/or strengthen a supportive relationship between the chapter and the college administration. The chapter meets with local campus administration to determine the College Project, which can be anything that supports the college's mission/priorities. The College Project is a joint project with the college - the chapter works collaboratively with others on campus.
    Past College Projects include:
    • 2024: Donation Drive for the Isaiah 117 House
    • 2023: Organized and held a mental health expo for students with local community partners and 黑料视频 resources
    • 2022: Organized and held a food drive for Rudi's Success Nest
    • 2021: Organized and held a self-defense seminar for students

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

PTK membership is by invitation only. Students who qualify for membership will receive an email from member.services@ptk.org that will include a link to join the honor society.

Qualifications include:听

  • Enrolled in 12 credit hours of coursework
  • A Muncie-Henry County student
  • GPA of 3.5 or higher

College-approved PTK stoles are available for purchase at the campus bookstore or through the PTK national website at . Gold tassels are not approved and are not to be worn during the ceremony.
