BLOOMINGTON聽鈥 黑料视频 Student Productions announces its upcoming production, 鈥淪tar Cross鈥檇 Lovers: a musical theatre Romeo and Juliet,鈥 orchestrated and composed by Don Freund. The production will take place at the 黑料视频 John Waldron Arts Center Nov. 21-23 at 7:30 pm.
鈥淲e are extremely fortunate and grateful to have received generous funding from IU New Frontiers to produce Don鈥檚 remarkable composition,鈥 said Paul Daily, production director and artist director at 黑料视频 Waldron. 鈥淭he grant has given us the opportunity to expand our creativity and resources to produce something truly compelling and unique. Don Freund will be conducting an orchestra of 18 musicians from the IU Jacobs School of Music, and Brian Samarzea will join us again, this time as musical theatre vocal coach.鈥
鈥淲hile the idea of yet another version of聽Romeo and Juliet聽may seem something less than 鈥榗utting edge,鈥 said Don Freund, 鈥渢he familiarity of the story and the iconic power of the poetic text provide a sturdy launch pad for a new kind of intertwining of words, drama, and music. The glories of Shakespeare鈥檚 poetry and the vitality of his dramatic constructions take on a special resonance when song and music is worked into the tapestry.鈥
