BLOOMINGTON – ������Ƶ Student Productions 2019-20 theatre season seeks to explore what the end of the world is like. The season opens in Aug. with Samuel Beckett’s Endgame, which explores what happens after the world ends.  The second production, Star-Cross’d Lovers: a Musical-Theatre Romeo and Juliet composed and orchestrated by world-renowned composer, Don Freund, will take stage in Nov. in the Auditorium. The final production of the season in April, Marisol, explores the actual event as the world ends.

Paul Daily, artistic director of the ������Ƶ John Waldron Arts Center, says that ������Ƶ Student Productions provides a safe arena where actors and audience members are allowed to stop, ask questions and have discourse about the meaning and purpose of life, and that in many ways we’re facing a metaphorical end of the world—whether environmentally, politically, or socially—and we hope something better will grow out of that end.

“I am genuinely excited about the opportunities this season presents. In partnership with IU, through a grant from IU New Frontiers, we’ll produce Don Freund’s orchestrated adaptation of Romeo and Juliet,”Daily said. “This is the first time Romeo and Juliet is being orchestrated using Shakespeare’s text in the original English. It’s certainly a rare opportunity for the college as well as the actors and production team alike.” The production will be staged in the Auditorium Nov. 21-23 at 7:30 .pm.

������Ƶ Chancellor Emeritus, John Whikehart, returns in the season opener, ���Ի岵������,��Aug. 30-31. This will be John’s seventh performance with ������Ƶ Student Productions.

The season closes with award-winning Marisol, Jose Rivera’s modern examination of the apocalypse as angels go to war against God and leave the humans to fend for themselves, April 10-18.
